yay!
Once again, sorry about my poll error but congratulations to our tied winners SAM and EVELYN. Let's see who will win our next contest!! Maybe the tie will be broken!! or maybe a new hailer will previal!! only time will tell....
Contest 2!!!!
Since the first contest was so successful at bringing together whale hailers, voters, and views, it's time for another WHALE of a Contest!!!
Earlier this month there was a poll up asking what type of whale you would like to be. The winner was the blue whale. No wonder, the blue whale is the largest animal alive yet only feeds on tiny krill and plankton! Since the majority of whale hailers on this site preferred Blue Whale, I firgured we should make the blue whale on the banner at the top of the site our hail whales mascot. Now the only question is what should its name be:
So I invite you to enter the NAME THAT WHALE CONTEST!

Just post your mascot name in a comment here (be sure to include your real name so that I know which entry is whose) or post it in our facebook group if you can't comment here. In a few weeks, we will have another poll to vote on the names and the winner will recieve their whale name in the banner at the top of this site underneath our mascot and another special prize.

LET THE VOTING BEGIN!
our contest (<--click for link) has officially closed and it is now time to begin voting for which whale emoticon should win. Here are a few basic guidelines for voting:
- voting ends very early in the morning on 8/1
- you can vote for your own entry
- you can vote from multiple computers/devices
- the poll can be found in the upper right corner of this blog
- and remember, one of the major goals of this contest is to increase viewers so feel free to recruit friends, family, even that whale fanatic living down the street to vote for your own entry or your favorite entry.
- the entry with the most votes when the poll closes will receive a special prize and their symbol in the title of our facebook group (as well as probably in many of the hailwhales posts).
- in the result of a tie, a new three day long poll will be created for viewers to vote between the tied emoticons.

uhhhggggg.
So I'm stuck in an airport waiting for a flight for 7 hours trying to get to Indiana for rowing nationals, so I think that gives me a legit reasons for a double post today! You know I realized a little while ago that the abbreviation for our blog is "hw" which is better know for being an abbreviation homework. Dangit! Well, I guess I won't be using the abbreviated version of hail whales much.
Also, while I'm waiting at the airport delta has this awesome snack mix with WHALE SHAPED CRACKERS!!!!!!! dsfk;ljdfklfkj;lak;ljs;lkff;djk
I took a photo of them but unfortunately don't have the cables to upload it to this computer :( but I will be sure to post it when I return on sunday.
Also remember, THERE ARE ONLY 5 DAYS LEFT TO ENTER OUT CONTEST (click here for link, sorry I forgot to link it when I posted this initially, but I went back and added it after rereading the post a few hours later) As of now we have four entries, but it would be super duper awesome to have more!!!

A very interesting quote...
So my friend Sarah (Sab9339) is at a summer camp where she is taking a course on the history of fairytales. This quote was in one of her readings:
From now on I am calling my posts with person stories, "personal WTSes" :)
Aren't whales and their roles in history so intriguing??
Check back tomorrow for another whalerific post and be sure to vote in our poll (it's seems there's a suspenseful tie between orca and beluga whale right now!)

A CONTEST!!!!
As I am approaching 200 views (197 as of now), I figured I should do something with all these viewers, so in order to make things a little more interesting, I am initiating a contest! Everyone please comment on this post with your own unique idea for how to make an "Emoticon" whale out of computer symbols.
It can be simple or complex, any species of whale, and using any symbols on the standard computer keyboard, feel free to get creative!
If you can't comment on this post for some reason, just give me your idea through facebook and I'll post it here.
Eventually, I will make a poll out of everyone's ideas and the person who wins the most votes will get a special prize! Remember to include your "name" with the post.
